Miller seeks corps authority for streambank erosion projects
Congressman Clarence Miller introduces legislation to empower the Army Corps of Engineers to study plan and build protections for eroding streambanks. The bill would fund up to 10 million dollars annually with a 500 thousand dollar cap per project and require non federal interests to secure lands easements and operate works after completion. Miller cites 549 thousand miles of damaged streambank nationwide and 148 thousand miles needing action, with Ohio River region damages around 3 million annually. He also notes potential Coast Guard regulation study to curb erosion from navigational operations.
