Rebels attack U S positions despite a cease fire as 4500 more American troops move in. Four service members killed or wounded since last week, with rebel operations centered in Ciudad Nueva Santo Domingo as fighting continues.
President Johnson outlined a plan to deter Communist influence in the Dominican Republic and prevent a Cuba-like outcome. He said 4,500 additional troops would land, bringing total U S forces to 14,000, as envoys meet Latin American officials and the OAS seeks peaceful resolution and safe passages for refugees.
