Airport Land Lease Approved For Kroger Center
Ohio University trustees tentatively approve a 28.5 acre land lease on former Ohio University Airport land to Kroger Co and Skilken Properties of Columbus. The deal would create a shopping center and a Holiday Inn with a travel trailer park, boosting university coffers by about 3 million over 40 years. Ratification by the full board is expected May 9 in Portsmouth, with income to begin in early summer as construction starts. Kroger moves its food store nearby, while smaller shops will follow. Potential delay may come from a Columbus civil suit challenging state land lease rights for private enterprise.
