At a Athens County Civic association meeting in Athens High School last night, 600 to 700 men from Athens Hocking and Perry counties heard that coal operators in the Hocking field will not pay the Jacksonville scale. If miners refuse to take less, mines may shut for a year or more with labor imported from other territories. The audience included many business and professional men, with some union miners present.

In Athens area, a large crowd heard Oral Daugherty speak for miners in the Hocking valley dispute. Ten Narrowly Escape Serious Injury in Rural Crash
Ten persons escaped serious injury when two cars collided on the Canaanville pike near Cook farm three miles east of Athens at midnight. The heavier vehicle toppled over an embankment. five aboard were slightly injured. The lighter car's five occupants had minor injuries. The lighter-car driver, charged by Okey Richards of Chillicothe with driving on the wrong side of the road, promised to appear in the sheriff's office this morning. None from the lighter car had appeared by noon. Those with Richards were Mrs. Mary B. Richards Danly Richards and Mary Virginia Richards all of Chillicothe and Thurman Thomas of West Union West Virginia. Both cars were badly damaged. Efforts were under way to trace the lighter car's owner via its license number.

Birdie shot goes awry as bird interferes on golf course
