Candidates Debate City Income Tax Stance At Athens League
Athens candidates voiced views on a city income tax during a 90 minute League of Women Voters meeting. Mayor Shepard said finances are the main issue while Harry Crewson urged a 1 percent gross income tax. Other candidates mixed or avoided positions, with several favoring income tax if needed and a few opposing it. A state aid check and city improvements were also discussed as plans to fund services. Over 50 attendees, including candidates, heard the session in the Common Pleas Court Room.
