Nelsonville Water Lineman Removed After Board Ruling
Nick Hawk, longtime water department worker in Nelsonville, was permanently dismissed by the city civil service commission after a unanimous finding that he was guilty of all charges of gross negligence. The case, heard by W. S. Bunion, D. E. Evans, and Thomas Spencer, centered on sewer supervision duties and ongoing public complaints about sanitary conditions. Hawk disputed the charges, claiming he followed orders, while city witnesses testified that improvements since his suspension have reduced sewage buildup in manholes, with a long-term fix tied to a full system cleaning. The commission’s order is final with no appeal.
