Mrs. Prances Elliott, a 31 year old widow, is arrested on charges related to a baby born Tuesday last week and hidden in a store room flue. Inquest and postmortem reveal a tightly tied ribbon around the infant, whose remains were later found after investigators traced the concealment in her Main street millinery shop.
Charles Shipman and Tittle Milroy were arrested Wednesday in Broadwell for shooting at Charles Decker and for carrying weapons. They were bound over to court in sums of 800 and unable to post bail while awaiting grand jury action. Decker’s father offered twenty five dollars to recover his son, prompting Tittle to fire and Shipman to carry weapons. Both men remain in jail pending further proceedings.
In York township Elizab eth Hawk files for divorce from John W. Hawk alleging marriage in 1833 and three children. She cites gross neglect and failure to provide essentials for three years, threats to take her life, extreme cruelty, and asks for custody and an injunction to stop interference with premises. After several years of illness Mrs Eleanor Morris died at her Washington Street home. Born February 17, 1842 in New Jersey she moved to Ohio eight years later. She married Charles Morris May 7 1670. he survives. Funeral services were held Tuesday at her residence with Rev Haddox officiating. interment in the new cemetery. Attending from distance were Calvary Morris Cleveland A Frame Piqua Dr W H Martin Chillicothe Mattie Morris Gabriel Columbus and Mrs Fuller Roxabel.
Douglas Jordan suffered a severe hand wound Friday while hunting with his sons on a hill above his home. A ramrod malfunction caused the firearm to discharge both barrels, mangling his right hand. Medics fear further finger loss and note he lacked an accident policy worth five thousand dollars.
