Teachers to Meet at Athens in April Session

A quarterly Teachers Institute session will be held in Athens on April 15 in the college chapel at 3 20 a m. Topics include improving county institutes, teacher community relations, parental cooperation, music and library use, character study, and raising teaching standards. All teachers urged to attend.

Halliday Family Arrives in Kansas Farm Area

Mrs Ealliday and daughter, recently moved from Daleron to Nelson Tyanszs, reached their western home to reside permanently. Mr Halliday had gone to Kansas last fall and now owns a Crawford county farm, hailed as among the Suntioneer state’s best. Mrs Halliday recalled the Kansas City to St Louis journey, noting vast plains like Jericho and seas. They’ve met several Athens county and township residents in the new locale.

Easter Services At Local Methodist Church Crowd Overflows

Easter services conducted at the Methodist church drew full seating and a highly entertaining program. Palm decoration and flowers enhanced the decor as the Sunday school presented what was described as one of the best Easter programs ever rendered locally.

Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Snyder at 71 in Jerseyville

Mrs. Elizabeth Snyder of Jerseyville died Sunday at her home after a long cancer battle. Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon in Jerseyville conducted by Rev. Hass, with burial in the local cemetery.

Mustered Out Death of Lewis E Grones at Palmer House

Lewis E Grones died Monday afternoon at the Palmer House after about a week’s pneumonia illness. He was 34 years old and served in Company B 7th O V I and was the first in that unit to die. He was with the regiment at Camp Alger and Camp Meade and was mustered out earlier this year. Funeral conducted by Rev Cyrus S, interment in the family lot at the new cemetery. His company provided a military escort and bugler Bernard Thompson sounded taps at the grave. Floral tributes included a wreath a pillow and an anchor of cut roses and a gift from Mrs Mary Limle of Chillicothe.

Christian Church Notes and Easter Services Report

Regular services continue with preaching next Sunday. A social at Mrs W A Roush raised funds for the Aid society. The last prayer meeting featured thoughtful addresses and a paper on prayer meeting. Easter services at Glovster drew large crowds with flowers, music, and a Junior Endeavor Society program. Miss Bradshaw led the Easter program, with each attendee reciting scripture.
