Escaped murderer pursued after Nelsonville prison breakout
John Modie, 58, escaped custody from the Southeast Correctional Complex in Nelsonville Sunday night. A large multi-agency manhunt persisted Monday as police urged tips, warned of danger, and closed classes at Hocking College. Modie, a convicted killer with ties to Washington County, is described as 6'4" with gray hair and a gray mustache, wearing blue hoodie and gray sweatpants. Police sought sightings near Route 13 and cautioned against hitchhiking while continuing the search across nearby counties.
