Muskie Wins Illinois Primary By Wide Margin

Senator Ed Muskie captured about 63 percent of the Illinois presidential primary vote, besting Eugene McCarthy with 63 percent to 37 percent. In the delegate race Muskie led in 60 convention seats with 75 percent of precincts reporting, while George McGovern held 14 seats and 86 delegates remained uncommitted. Bandit Robs Athens Store Seizes Four Hostages

An armed robber struck the Athens Stop and Go at 2 a.m. taking four hostages to Columbus after firing at a wall camera and leaving with cash. John Montgomery escaped unharmed. the four hostages were released in Columbus around 6 a.m. The blue 1966 Volkswagen was used and no merchandise was missing. The incident remains under investigation by Athens and Columbus police.

Woman Behind Jail Break Gun Supplied By Acquaintance

Cincinnati AP The Hamilton County sheriff searches for an unidentified woman who supplied the gun used by inmates to break out of the Hamilton County Jail. Nine of 24 escapees have been recaptured. 15 remain at large, two charged with murder.

Guards Block Inmates From Eating at Ohio Prisons

Prisoners at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus and at Chillicothe and London centers held a two day strike over grievances. Warden Harold Cardwell and Corrections Commissioner Bennett Cooper announced concessions to end the walkout. Meetings were set with inmate councils and officials from the Teamsters Union to discuss parole rules, pay, and governance amid looming transfers to Lucasville.

May Vote Slated On Lottery Okay

Ohio voters will decide in the May 2 primary on lifting the constitutional ban to permit a state lottery. The ballot also includes amendments from the Constitutional Revision Commission if a House Senate conference resolves differences by Friday.
