Saigon Says 10000 Withdrawn 12000 Remain In Laos

South Vietnamese forces pulled back under heavy North Vietnamese fire as Saigon announced 10000 men withdrawn while 12000 troops reportedly remained in Laos holding three fire bases. Casualties totaled 5329 with 1031 killed 219 missing and 3985 wounded across the invasion force.

Mutiny in Viet platoons over move to repair helicopter

Brig. Gen. John J. Hill said 53 soldiers refused an order to advance to secure a damaged helicopter and their armored vehicle. Capt. Carlos A. Poveda was relieved of command for tactical error. The men were in Bravo Troop 1st Squadron 1st Cavalry Americal Division, temporarily reassigned to Hill’s unit near Laos invasion support. Incident occurred late Saturday night.
