Gallipolis Woman of the Year Mrs Gatewood told 18 members and two guests of the French City Garden Club about a 2050 mile hike from last spring and last summer along the Appalachian Trail. She brought a plaque from the National Campers and Hikers Association and the, meeting planned open secular plans for April.

The Kyger Creek Local School district marching band will perform at the $145,000 OVEC plant dedication May 24. Engineer Fred R. Carman, visiting Cresaps West Virginia, will return to Kentucky soon. the May 24 program details are pending. Boosters noted 42 musicians in Eckard’s band and 120 instrumental students in the area. a spring concert with Eckard and Miss Jean Lee will follow, with date to be announced. Death of Gallipolis Blacksmith Joseph King at 77
Retired blacksmith Joseph Robert King, 77, died Tuesday at his son James E. King’s home in Gallipolis. He leaves sons James and Henry, daughter Mrs. Bounnie Fletcher, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two brothers, a sister, and several nieces and nephews. Born October 8, 1878 near Henderson, he was a Nazarene Church member and longtime Gallipolis resident. Funeral rites set for 2 p.m. at Wetherholt Funeral Venue with Rev. Vernon C. Shater officiating. burial in Mound Hill Cemetery. He was active in the Gallipolis Council of the Inner Order of United American Mechanics. Friends may call Thursday evening at the funeral home.
