Gangs of Turkish Cypriot youths stormed through Nicosia looting and smashing Greek shops after reports of a Greek attack in Vasilia. Police used tear gas to disperse the mob gathered at Konak Square.
A 500 strong mob split the square and moved toward St Sophia mosque, tearing debris before police halted the riot. They attacked a Greek Cypriot photographer and stoned a Greek bus as British troops surrounded the Turkish quarter after a two hour clash. Turkish residents oppose union with Greece and Greek shopkeepers closed amid fears.
London reports a generally favorable U S initial reaction to a British French disarmament proposal. Harold Stassen leads the U S delegation with reservations while Canada and the Soviet Union review the plan. The five nation UN subcommittee opened talks. The plan aims to limit conventional arms and future nuclear production with a global control system.
The Ohio River eased below Cincinnati’s 52 foot flood stage Monday night and continued to fall as weather predicts more precipitation could reverse the decline. The river rose about a foot over flood levels locally but caused little damage while some basin roads closed. Projections show declines to about 48.5 feet by Wednesday morning with Portsmouth expected to reach 45 feet and fall further.
Annabel Butler, 55, had a body temperature of 62.4 degrees when admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday but was reported in satisfactory condition as staff noted her temperature rose toward normal. Police found her unconscious body between two west Dayton houses and suspect possible assault.

Port Clinton Ohio police report 23 year old Bill W Walters of Toledo died from carbon monoxide poisoning. He was found unconscious last Thursday in the cab of his truck parked at a truck stop on Ohio 2 two miles west of Port Clinton. The truck was idling at the time he nappered.
Minnesota voters face a pivotal primary with Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver contesting for 30 delegates as President Eisenhower leads the GOP with 28 votes and Knowland’s name remains on the ballot. United Construction Co will be paid 10000 for each cofferdam flood and 1000 daily for pumping and cleanup. February 19 and March 9 floods added 10000 and further days of pumping. The $65 million dam faces possible more delays until 1959 completion.
