A 39 year old Russell Kerwood was charged with murder in the death of 85 year old Sam Doolittle at a Point Pleasant rooming house. Kerwood says Doolittle attacked him during a bill collection attempt and he stabbed in self defense. He was arrested in Gallipolis after the killing occurred Tuesday. other suspects were released.

Mrs. Ellen Butts Lauer aged 85 died at her son Henry A. Lauer’s home in Judgow Lodi Township Thursday afternoon around 4 o clock. She had been in usual health and death came suddenly. Mineral services will be held at Graham Chapel at 11 o clock Saturday. She was born in Rome Township and married Civil War veteran Peter P. Lauer who died 18 years ago. The family home had been in Dinghams Gap then Judson. One son and a foster daughter Minnie Steinmetz of Coolville survive. she was the last of five children.
