Treat Local Infection With Heat

Infection is common in untreated small injuries and can be serious. A simple home treatment uses a local hot bath or soak: wash the area, sit comfortably, prepare a pan of hot water, and immerse the hand or foot gradually for about 20 minutes. Maintain even heat, cover with a blanket or newspaper, reheat as needed, dry the limb, and apply a clean dressing. Consider a sling for comfort.
