Athens Announces Sewer Rental Start and Charge Rationale
Athens residents received sewer rent notices with water bills explaining the mandatory sewer project under Ohio law. Safety Service Director Fred H. Beckler outlined that penalties await if a disposal plant is not built, and that the rental funds help finance the $1.1 million project while reducing future bond costs. The current rate taxes water use with tiered charges and a minimum monthly fee, and eligible users may qualify for reductions by directing waste to storm sewers.
