Ohio Banks To Operate Under Federal Ruling
In Columbus on March 10, Ohio 800 banks will stay open with existing restrictions as the holiday remains in effect. Governor White and state officials note the new emergency banking act and currency distribution delays require another extension of the breathing spell. Treasury counts show 788 banks in Ohio including 257 national and 590 state banks, with about 140 state banks in the Federal Reserve system. Senator Fess says state banks non member of the Fed could obtain aid via the Reconstruction Finance Corporation or join the Fed within 24 hours to access new currency.
