Birth of a League: Southeastern Ohio Athletic Association Emerges
Fifteen years ago Bill Thomas of Wellston envisioned an organized high school league to streamline schedules and boost fan interest. The Southeastern Ohio Athletic Association formed with ten schools, evolving to eight by the present, with Middleport joining in 1928 and several schools leaving and returning over the years. Representatives of the eight current members met at the Rogan Hotel in Wellston to honor the milestone.
