Mitch's Musings on Spring Training and Pitcher Curves
Mitch McKechnie of the Reds advocates an unorthodox spring regimen. He starts hurlers on day one with curveballs to condition the arm, arguing that pitchers should begin strengthening the same muscles used in throwing curves. The piece notes two purposes of spring training: conditioning and evaluating new talent for big league camp. The Deacon aims to build readiness while testing inexperienced players for future roles.
