Senator James A. Reed of Missouri urges local self-government and state sovereignty to preserve freedom. He calls for limiting federal power to constitutional spirit and halting centralization and bureaucratic government. He lists seven demanded changes if elected president.
Paris reports Dr. Edouard Imbeaux former government engineer proposes freezing a 20 to 30 foot band at the base of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and injecting cement to stabilize foundations. He cites 1350 completion and current five foot lean with southern side sinking about one millimetre yearly.
Mr and Mrs Otto Lewis announce the birth of a son named Gerard Atto on Sunday March 4 in Logan at the home of Mrs Lewis parents formerly of Athens. The couple recently returned from a winter in Florida. Mr Lewis is the son of Mrs Grace Lewis of Richland Avenue.
Akron report confirms Henry C C Carson 79 former executive vice president of B F Goodrich died at his Scarsdale New York home. Relatives in Akron have been advised of the death.
Three people died in Toledo automobile accidents ending the week. Victims named included Franklin of Temperance Michigan and Charlés Carter of Adrian Michigan, along with Simon Kope, 78, of Toledo.
Miss Aileen Rauch a Ward Belmont student will broadcast from station WSM Nashville at 10 30 Tuesday night detailing program plans and schedule.
Columbus March 5. Adjt. Gen. Frank D. Henderson head of relief work said clothing on hand meets all needs in poverty stricken mining regions. He noted the urgent need for children's shoes and more money. About 33,700 dollars in cash has been contributed. National Guard oversees eight kitchens and feeding stations. Meals were served Sunday to 5,600 children.
Chester Le vere of Evans ton Indiana celebrated his 58th birthday by skipping rope 15 000 times in 3 1 2 hours. He broke his previous record of 12 000 skips and lost eight pounds during the effort.
John McMillen aged 69 of 919 Neil avenue died Sunday at St. Anthony's hospital from uremic poisoning after being struck in Nelsonville on Friday. Survived by widow Mary, three daughters Cecilia and Mary Winifred, and Mrs John Sheriden, sons John William Anthony and Charles, brother William, sisters Mrs Mary Coleman and Mrs Frank Emmett, and a grandchild. Funeral at St Francis church with burial at St Joseph's.
A planned unification of the Toledo & Ohio Central Kanawha Michigan & Virginia railways would create a direct Toledo Ohio to Newport News Va trunk line, potentially rivaling the Van Sweringen system and the Norfolk and Western to move coal to Great Lakes ports. Ohio railroads plan to hire 900 workers next month to speed coal shipments from Southern Ohio Kentucky and West Virginia to Great Lakes ports with projected 31 million tons to be moved.
Five men perished when W. W. Bird’s home constructed monoplane crashed in San Diego. The city air control board had two weeks earlier declared the craft not fit for use and refused Bird a pilot's license citing lack of competence to operate such a machine. The crash occurred near Old Town, a mile from Mahoning Field.
Conneaut, March 5. Alphonse DeMarco died in a Sunday automobile crash in Erie, Pennsylvania. Two other men were injured, police said.
Cleveland inventor Frank Ballou Sterns unveils a new engine claiming to equal more than twice the power of rival motors with a light fuel oil at 1 cent a gallon. The seven and a half year project cost over 500000 dollars and was developed in Sterns home lab in Shaker Heights before production could begin.
Steubenville report says Robert Shores a 35 year old bookkeeper for Bernice Coal was attacked by eight armed men on the outskirts of Dillonvale. He suffered a double jaw fracture and internal injuries while James Buckbee and son John Buckbee were with him. Buckbee senior was also attacked. The incident ties to a spate of traveler assaults tied to coal mine troubles.

He accused Hoover backers of pressuring delegation loyalty and blamed Hoover for low farm prices and high others. Willis plans to campaign in Cleveland Cincinnati and Toledo if advised by managers.
Ohio inventor Robert Condit, 30, postponed his planned rocket flight to Venus citing perfect atmospheric conditions. He claims a powerful explosive lift, will use a periscope to aim for a meteoric stream, and expects to reach Venus within 30 to 48 hours before returning to Miami Beach.
A defense bid to abate the Velma West indictment cites a allegedly faulty grand jury. Attorneys Poulson and Bostwick indicated a motion may test the grand jury composition and the right to inspect the bungalow where the murder occurred. If granted the trial would be delayed. if denied, the defense rests its estate and prepares for trial.
In Painesville a March arrest concerns Velma West who testified she beat her husband Edward West to death with a hammer at their Perry home. A plea of not guilty was entered as the body was found December 7 with hands bound and injuries from a hammer blow.
