Athenian's New Home Opens With Social Dance
The Athenian Club celebrated its new home in the Cline building with a Thursday night dance attended by about forty couples and numerous out of town guests. Selby's orchestra provided music as dancing continued to two in the morning. The elegant club rooms include a ball room, parlor, smoking and billiard areas, with light refreshments served and much attention to tasteful finishing.

Carrier Black Arrested On Mail Tampering Charge
Thomas Black a 28 year old rural carrier on route No 1 from Nelsonville was arrested by United States Marshal McAllister of Marietta on a charge of tampering with mail. Investigators say complaints from patrons about missing registered letters led to the arrest. He posted $1000 bail with his mother and was sent to Marietta. a substitute now serves the route.

Good Prospects for Oil in Canaan Drill
South Canaan February 29 The drilling on the new oil well progresses well. The first oil sand at 230 feet shows small. flow not enough to shoot. Drilling continues toward the Berea layer about 1600 feet deeper to secure potential oil or gas production. Oil found at 230 feet is excellent quality and nearly impurity free reducing refining expense.

Sudden Death of Paul Codding at 28
Paul Roe Codding, longtime Findlay native and Athens advertising executive for D. Zenner & Company, died after an appendicitis operation at St. Anthony hospital in Columbus. Born May 10, 1880 in Marion, he moved to Findlay as a child and to Athens in 1900, later becoming store manager and advertising head. He left behind his parents, four sisters, and relatives in Findlay and Athens. Funeral services were held in Findlay with interment there.

Accidents at Light Plant Leave Two Men Injured
Ed Blessing was overcome by fumes of burnt gas in the loft of the municipal electric light plant boiler house on Monday afternoon. Pulled to safety by workmen with a rope and ladder, he regained consciousness as Dr. Biddle arrived. A scantling fell during the rescue, striking Frank Border and causing a brief loss of consciousness, though his head wound is not serious.

Miss Elma Clark, a dormitory worker, received a $2000 legacy via check from the Knights of the Maccabees. Dr F P McVay presented the gift, which she deposited, following the death of her cousin Earl Clark in Kansas. Earl Clark, once in Athens, studied electrical engineering at Ohio University before dying of typhoid fever after paying two assessments.
