Heroin ring busted in Athens County with 14 suspects
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn says a heroin trafficking ring moving drugs from Columbus to Athens has existed since before 2011. Dozens of charges have been filed against 14 individuals, many with family connections or other relations, as officers continue tracing drugs back to the source.

Ohio University Trustees OK Budget and Capital Plan

Superheroes braved rain for Athens CASA GAL fundraiser
More than 150 runners in superhero attire joined the Athens CASA GAL Superhero 5K Fun Run Volume 2 held in rainy conditions. Jenny Stotts reported strong turnout with 95 pre registered participants and many more on site. The event featured a battle of superheroes, a costume contest and water squirt finishers. Local runners Meredith Suhr and Adele Bergmeier ran as The Flash and Thor. Athens Middle School cheerleaders added enthusiasm despite the weather. The fundraiser supports CASA GAL, a nonprofit that connects youths in the juvenile court system with community volunteers serving as advocates.
