The Centennial celebration of American descendants of John Jones of Galiia County drew nearly 200 attendees at Tyn Rhes Church and community center. Descendants from the five Jones branches wore colored ribbons as committees led by Jenkins W. Jones and W. Gomer Jones organized a weekend of memorial services, graveside ceremonies, papers, and speeches honoring Welsh heritage.

Survived by four sons and four daughters including Myrt le Green Edith Halley Emory Waugh Tina Phillips and Cecil Slater. Brother P L Cornell of Bladen. Funeral services were Tuesday in Huntington.

Sherman Shumate, 76, well known Jackson County resident, died at Holzer Hospital following major surgery two weeks earlier. His wife Kate Myers Shumate is sister of County Treasurer BE Myers and works at the Ohio Hospital for Epileptics. He leaves a son Frank and a married daughter in Dayton. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the family home.

Plan Reunion of Mt Zion Boys at Chickamauga Park
Gallipolis plans for a Mt. Zion boys reunion after a 40 year gap following last year’s gathering in Chickamauga Park. Forty five former neighborhood youths, now statewide, were organized by Horace Kerr with Harry K. Mills elected president.
