In Gallipolis on June 2, Rev. O. P. Wright led funerals for two childhood friends within three days. Rev. J. H. Mayo of Macedonia Colored Baptist Church in Burlington died Friday while speaking at the funeral of T. W. Rogers, Mayo’s boyhood chum. All three men, born in North Kenova, Lawrence County, were about 65 years old.
In Logan on June 26 a series of poultry thefts plagued Hocking County. Most recent loss was 100 chickens from Orlandeth Lehman of Green Township Monday night, with Sheriff Sol Ellinger and Deputy Stanley Sparnon responding.
Mrs Amy Kingsland travels from New York to Columbus to meet her daughter Miss Amy Kingsland at the Columbus airport. The daughter prefers a graduation gift trip to Pomeroy and says she would walk from New York rather than use any transport except the airplane. Mrs Kingsland stays in Pomeroy with her mother Dr Amy L Whaley.
Gallia County officials arrested Dewey Cochran and his brother Grover Cochran after a Monday morning cutting incident at the Jones home in Patriot. Dewey Cochran, 40, was taken on a warrant for cutting with intent to wound. Karl Edwardes and Sidney Erwin, both Middleport residents, were jailed in Gallia and Meigs Counties on a chicken theft charge involving 40 birds from A. T. Lamsey near Eno. the arrests followed a tip linking them to a chicken-marked suspect seen near the Lamsey property.
Charles Shuttleworth of Murray City pleaded not guilty at arraignment before Magistrate Von Martin on a charge of assault and battery. He was bound over to a grand jury under a $200 bond after an incident Friday night when Howard Brooker was knocked down and later found to have a fractured rib.
Seventy three steel filing cases for poll books and ballots were placed today in the filing room across from the office of David Johnson, clerk of the county board of elections. The cases store poll books by precinct and ballots by precinct with locks. storage is for two years after each election.
