City School Board Accepts Principal Resigns Hires 3 Teachers
The city school board accepted high school principal Wilbur H. Lewis's resignation effective Aug 1 to take a post in Nigeria with Ohio U. He recently earned a Ph D from Ohio University. Three new elementary teachers were hired Sally H Roberts Virginia Selek and De lores Jean Beckley all OU graduates with salaries 4300 to 4520. The Plains Chauncey Dover districts join the city district July 1 and bond issue planning proceeds with Squire Sanders and Dempsey.

Athens Youth Becomes Youngest Student Pilot in County
Carl Conant, a Athens High School junior, soloed a Cessna 182 at Gallipolis on his 16th birthday after two years of flight training. Under E L Atkins supervision, he has flown since age 14 with his father and local pilots. Ruth Ann Rowan, 10, sustained a possible right arm fracture from a fall at Girl Scout Camp Longview Heights and was taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital.
