A tiny cyclone swept from Springfield into Southeastern Ohio causing widespread damage in Athens and nearby towns. Homes and barns were wrecked, trees uprooted, power lines and telephone service disrupted, and one man injured by a collapsed corn crib near Guysville.

Dr Jesse B Sears of Stanford University spoke to Ohio University students in convocation, outlining his views on financing public education. He warned that over 1990 school systems are bankrupt and urged state responsibility, modern taxation, and reconstruction of school finances. A luncheon honored him at noon.

Wheat near 88 1/2 cents a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade and cotton futures down 27 10 dollars per bale amid global grain glut and growing harvests in the Southwest.
Harold Johnson 12-year-old Boy Scout survived five days in the San Jacinto Mountains near Snow Creek. He walked along Snow Creek to reach the Snow Creek Fish Hatchery, saying he wasn’t too scared though he could have used food. Rangers and woodsmen noted his calm, resourceful trek through rugged canyons.

A Dublin dispatch reported the father of Capt. J Patrick Saul navigator of the Southern Cross is seriously ill and sinking. The update came from London on June 25.
On June 25 in New York the stock market swung between gains and losses. United States Steel fell steadily, hovering near 154% at noon and 151% by 12:30, marking a new yearly low. Overall, the market retraced earlier gains of 1 to 7 points from lower levels and drifted with fractional to over 3 point advances above the previous close.
June 25. Amelia Barhert set an international speed record at Grosse He Airport by flying a measured 64 mile course at 474.2 miles per hour. The event marked a historic achievement in female aviation.
