Old Bell to Be Mounted on Amesville Village Green
Plans by the Ames-Bern Heritage Bicentennial Group call for permanently mounting the old school bell on the Amesville village green. The project, discussed at the Bern Two building in Sharpsburg, includes a model display and will be done by local craftsmen. The bell, once on an Ohio River steamboat, was reportedly brought by Mr. Cutler from Marietta to Athens. A history notes its use at Amesville Academy from 1852 to 1901 and later in the town’s new school until 1955 before the bell’s transfer to Amesville.
