Frazzled by tear gas and tension the Mississippi march regroups for new confrontations. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr plans a detachment to Philadelphia Mississippi a Ku Klux Klan stronghold for a rally. Gov Paul Johnson urges residents to stay away as Negro voter registration drives and boycotts unfold.
In Cleveland an East Side flash of rioting injures a 9 year old boy, a white woman, and bullets hit two officers. Looting and vandalism target white owned businesses along Superior Avenue as police restore order amid long standing Sowinski Park tensions. Earl Stapler calls for white business removal from the area.
The House Appropriations Committee, led by George H. Mahon, recommends $58.61 billion in Defense Department financing for the fiscal year starting July 1. It says this full-year total is arbitrary and not a war-end forecast, and notes requests exceed last year while more funds may be needed if combat continues. A Republican minority says the sum may still be insufficient.
NASA launches PAGEOS, a 125 pound aluminum coated plastic balloon, to map the globe from a 2600 mile circular orbit above Earth. The 100 foot diameter satellite-like balloon was positioned by a Thor Agena D rocket from Vandenberg California and released from its canister before expanding in sunlight.

Paratroopers and riot police sealed off Hue's two main Buddhist pagodas to block a public funeral and potential antigovernment protest after self immolations. Coffins of a nun and a 17 year old girl were removed, amid arrests tied to Thich Tri Quang’s movement. U S troops attacked Communist positions in the central highlands. eight and fifteen Reds were reported killed in separate operations near Pleiku and Nathan Hale.
Royce Hudson 36 of Jonesboro was killed when a crane boom touched a high tension line while a Tennessee Gas Co. project crew rode in a truck near the rail depot in Albany. His son riding with him jumped clear. He died on arrival at Sweltering Arms Hospital.
Former Dodd aide Michael O'Hare testified that Gerald Zeiller, a former Dodd top aide, told him he had too much on the senator to fear retaliation. Zeiller later supported Dodd under cross examination as documents surfaced involving removal from Dodd files. Golden testified she was Zeiller's secretary and implicated personal tensions within the staff.
King Faisal of Saudi Arabia arrives in New York as a UN guest while Mayor Lindsay cancels an official welcome dinner citing his controversial remarks on Jews. The king attends a UN luncheon and hosts a private reception at the Waldorf Astoria. White House and Congress react with limited comment.
Miami monitors of Havana Radio report Fidel Castro rarely mentioned on Cuba broadcasts this week. The last broadside address was May 1, and a June 4 sighting suggested he was present at an official function. The Citizens Committee for a Free Cuba cites unconfirmed reports of electric shock therapy and a possible double.
