Brooks Shoe Firm Plans ARA Training Program

The William Brooks Shoe Co aims to launch a government funded training program for shoe workers at its Nelsonville plant. Classes of up to 15 will run after hours, with subsistence payments up to 42 dollars weekly from federal funds and materials provided by the company. The program, certified by the State Department of Vocational Education, targets cutting stitching and other steps, with no finished shoes produced. Two thirds of trainees may complete, after which many could join Brooks or seek other plant openings.
