The Athens High School graduation Closed Friday with exercises at the college auditorium. Diplomas for twenty graduates were stolen from Superintendent Coultrap’s office days earlier, and new ones were prepared. The program included student theses and orations, a girl’s chorus, and a university figure guest speaker, Dr. Frederick Trendley.

Richard Henderson Injured In Ohio Central Lines Accident
Od Richard Henderson, operator on the Ohio Central Lines at Marysville, was seriously injured Thursday night after being struck by a train on the main track while delivering a message to the conductor. His head wounds were severe with an artery severed, and he narrowly escaped death. He was dressed on Sunday night and brought home to Avenue, where he is slowly recovering.

Death in Mine Fells Slate Buries Guy Bennett at Murray City
Guy D. Bennett, about 18, was killed Saturday afternoon at Jobs mine near Murray City when slate fell and crushed his skull. He had worked in the mine and was preparing to leave when the accident occurred. His father Lemuel Bennett of Strouds Run was notified. Undertaker Hibbard bore the body to Athens, with burial in Bennett cemetery after funeral services by Rev. Cyrus Rose.

University Loses Baseball Game At University Field
The Athens based Ohio University team fell to the visiting Middleport squad eight to seven Tuesday afternoon at University Field. Athens committed several fielding errors that allowed two early runs for the visitors, hampering their efforts. Attendance was decent and headway for the season remains positive despite the setback.

Unconsciousness Strikes Grosvenor Operator on B&O
William Self, operator at Grosvenor on the Baltimore and Ohio, became suddenly ill and lost consciousness in the tower early Tuesday morning. He was found by a passing train and carried to his boarding house, Henderson hotel, where he did not regain consciousness until about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

University Votes to Extend President Ellis Term and Builds Library
At a trustees meeting the university elected President Alston Ellis for two more years at a 3500 salary. A new library costing 20000 will be erected on campus facing Ewing Hall, with Architect Packard’s plans approved. Bids will be sought and foundation work begun promptly. Two Families Fight in Saloon Row At Doanville
In Nelsonville June 16 a saloon dispute at Deanville left James Carey accused of striking Harvey Nixon with a beer glass. James Nixon, father of the injured boy, filed assault charges. Later Grover Nixon clashed with Fred Carey at the Doanville company store platform, leading to Carey shooting Nixon in the leg. Doanville is described as tense and a wider altercation feared.

Five Generations Hold A Reunion In Waterloo Township
Marshfield June 16 The Lightfritz family celebrated the 76th birthday of Mrs Henry Lightfritz with a five generation gathering led by Mr and Mrs Henry Lightfritz ages 78 and 76. Attendees included daughter Sallie Brooks 58 granddaughter Phoeba Dowler 36 great granddaughter Rose Doler 18 and a 16 month old great great grandson. The couple have nine living children 23 grandchildren thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. It marked the first five generation reunion in Waterloo township.
