Alexander Wellness Center Groundbreaking Held by Local Schools
Alexander Local Schools celebrated the groundbreaking of a 22 000 square foot wellness center in a two phase plan to unfold over 14 months. Gutknecht Construction Co. received a 1 5 million contract for exterior shell work and a Holzer doctor’s office. Wayne Myles D O will occupy the office. he is a longtime family physician connected to the district since 2001 and is the Spartans team physician. His son Jordan, an Alexander High School graduate, now teaches math and coaches baseball. The project aims to improve access to school health services.

Plains area to gain Strong family apartments from tax credits
Ohio Housing Finance Agency awarded $780,000 in federal tax credits for Sandstone Apartments planned by Frontier Community Services in The Plains. The project would add 50 family housing units on Route 682 near Rite Aid, financed by selling credits to an investor. Final approval pending fall submission. credits previously sought $600,000 in HOME funds and $1.5 million from the Housing Development Loan Program.

Glouster man gets 11 year sentence on multiple charges
Donald Drake, 52, was sentenced in Athens County Common Pleas Court to 11 years after pleading guilty to two counts each of burglary and breaking and entering and a new indictment for failure to appear. A prior joint recommendation of five years was voided when he failed to attend the original sentencing.

Community backs NYES playground prep for new turf surface
About 35 volunteers spread pea gravel and cleared a 17,000 square foot NYES playground in Nelsonville to prepare for a turf surface. PTO vice president Brooke Schultz cited donated excavator time and local labor saving an estimated $55,000 bid, with out-of-pocket costs at $3,200.
