In McArthur Ohio on June 15 a demonstration by unemployed workers drew a crowd of FERA road workers on State Highway 75. The protesters argued unfair job selection while Mrs. Harold Partee, wife of the sheriff, said no discrimination was evident and some demonstrators only sought work when available. Sheriff Partee left for Chillicothe, leaving his wife and a deputy to monitor the scene.
An early morning fire at the Grand Theater in Columbus leveled the East State Street landmark across from the Capitol. Flames engulfed the three and a half story auditorium for three hours as the roof collapsed and ancient timbers burned, casting smoke over the State House.

Logan reports Clyde Crawford a 21 year old Middletown resident and CCC participant at Camp Logan drowned Thursday evening after diving into Floyd Pond from a raft. Friends failed to rescue him. Lahert Evinger recovered the body 55 minutes later. Funeral services planned in Middletown.
In St Joseph Missouri three Iowa men Elmer Schieuter Davenport police officer Al Schultze and Dr W H Fitch were held captive for nearly 18 hours by escaped Texas convict Joe Palmer. Palmer, 32, who with four others escaped Fasthan prison farm in February, surrendered after release and said he would face robbery and kidnapping charges in Iowa. He feared police would uncover a pistol and return him to Texas where he faced possible execution.
Berlin observers predict Germany will suspend all foreign debt payments for six months to end reparations and challenge the Treaty of Versailles. Sources note that abolition of reparations is a key Nazi objective, with uncertainty over whether payments will resume after the moratorium.
