Old Man of the Mountain tale in a Buddhist temple
In December 1876 near Wuhu on the Yangtze a pair explore a hillside temple built around a massive tree. They meet a devout but comic old man who clings to Mr H, believes them to be genii, and follows them through village streets until persuaded to return. The encounter ends with wary relief and amusement among locals and boatmen.
