Ohio University held its 153rd commencement on College Green with Gov. C William O Neill delivering the keynote address urging expanded education beyond high school. Degrees were conferred on 713 graduates with 72 second lieutenant commissions awarded across Army and Air Force reserves.
Nobel laureate Linus Pauling proposes an international appeal to halt nuclear weapon tests. He cites 2000 American signers and calls for signatures from Russian British and French scientists to pressure U S Russia and Britain to stop explosions. He warns of rising leukemia deaths and birth defects from fallout and faces a France lecture tour starting Tuesday.
Bishop Hazen G. Werner of Columbus reveals changes in ministerial assignments for the Ohio Conference. In Chillicothe District new district supervisor W. Carl Hickey at Athens First joins John G. A 20-year-old East Side man told police he fatally crushed another man against a fence with an automobile after the latter allegedly pointed a shotgun at him. Police Capt. David E. Kerr reported the admission.
Dale Otto of Cincinnati is new commander of the Ohio Department of AMVETS. Otto was named Sunday at the department convention in Dayton to succeed Edgar Williams of Hamilton. Williams was named a delegate to the national convention in Boston in August.
The replica Mayflower II faced rough seas as it neared the mainland off Nantucket. Coast Guard at dawn said conditions were stormy and Cmdr Alan J Villiers reported the ship about 90 miles south south west of Nantucket lightship going five knots and expected to reach Provincetown then Plymouth Harbor at high tide after crossing Massachusetts Bay.
Twenty three people died in Ohio over the weekend with twenty one from traffic crashes marking a high spring toll. Two families lost three members each in separate crashes and two pedestrians died in hit and run incidents. A drowning occurred in the Muskingum River and a man fell to his death from a third floor apartment after pleading with his ex wife to remarry him.
Tropical storm swept across Florida from St. Petersburg to the Georgia line. Perry, a town of 3000, near Tallahassee, was hardest hit with 200 families evacuated. crop damage was expected to be high.

Baltimore report says Dr. Milton S. Eisenhower Johns Hopkins University president was hospitalized with a preliminary diagnosis of a kidney infection. He is 57 and the youngest brother of President Eisenhower.
President Eisenhower, recovering from a 1955 heart attack, suffered a stomach upset and the White House summoned heart and intestinal specialists as a precaution. Press Secretary Hagerty said the illness is not linked to his ileitis operation or heart attack, with vitals normal and no change in ECG.
Mrs Cath erine Endsley aged 23 of Route 4 Lima and her children Linda May aged 2 and Carl 6 months were killed when a passenger train struck their car about five miles west of Lima on Sunday.

A stock car being towed to Canton Speedway broke loose on U S 30 near Canton injuring three members of an East Liverpool family. The crash injured a man and two women who were in the family car. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as the runaway vehicle sped away.

Passengers reported high fevers 104 degrees and severe body aches. Doctors note antibiotics ineffective. aspirin and codeine used. Blood samples from recovered passengers may aid vaccine research. The virus has affected millions in India and the Philippines with hundreds of deaths, while Japan reports a waning outbreak.
