May Jobs Surge Shows U S Hiring Confidence

US employers added 280000 jobs in May signaling renewed momentum after a Q1 slump. The unemployment rate rose to 5.5 percent as more people sought work, with March-April payrolls revised up by 32000. Construction, health care and hospitality led gains while energy firms shed workers for a fifth month. Average wages rose 2.3 percent year over year, barely above inflation.
