Washington June 6 A drought relief arrives as scattered rains reach the Midwest and New England. Agriculture officials say showers late for wheat but may save corn forage and pastures, with Maine crops still threatened yet some relief spreading eastward. President Roosevelt awaits the drought impact on his Congress message.
In Charleston, West Virginia, 35-year-old Andrew McCormick is jailed on a murder charge after confessing he shot his estranged wife Janie, 28, as she spoke, saying he fired toward her voice when she refused to let him visit their two children. Columbus June 6 AP report says heat wave eased as thundershowers and showers are expected to ease drought. After yesterday’s scattered rain, temperatures fell near 70 degrees across most of Ohio. Three killed in heat related incidents, with a man and a boy among the victims.

W. A. Storms, age 49, an employe of the Champion Nursery in Perry, was killed when lightning struck him as he worked at Marion. Lightning struck and killed Paul Arthur Shirk, age 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peihert Shirk. The boy's three brothers and his grandmother, Mrs. Edward Moore, were knocked down but unharmed. Pearl shortage fears rise in Cleveland as water works run at full capacity and city pumps operate. Water consumption in Greater Cleveland likely topped 220 million gallons. Missed by showers, rain reduced drought impact in other parts. Flour prices up 20 cents per barrel yesterday in Cleveland with wheat up four cents, corn up 2.5 cents, oats up 2 cents amid drought.
The common pleas court of Cuyahoga County will not be allowed to appoint a receiver to distribute more than 13 million dollars to Ohio Pell Telephone subscribers until the fall term. Judge George B. Baer’s motion for immediate hearing on a prohibition suit to block such appointment was rejected. The refund stems from a state utilities commission order approving lower rates after years of higher charges.

Guy Gilkey and Earl Mehl of Athens were fined five dollars and castes each by Mayor Len B. McCune after pleading to intoxication charges. They were arrested by Patrolman Qwen Finsterwald.
