Huttons Hear Case Against Ohio Industrial Commission

Mrs C M Hutton seeks compensation from the Industrial Commission of Ohio after her husband M Hutton died from injuries suffered at work in 1927. A hearing was held in Breils County Private Courtrooms as part of an appeal process with an option to move to common pleas court if unresolved. Dana Russell also testified in a separate Industrial Commission case alleging injuries from mine gas at a Stalder Esse Mine.

Pomeroy June 4 Mayor Hess warns boys bathing in the Ohio River at Ferry Landing to wear bathing suits or face enforcement under state law. The proclamation marks a shift as public nudity near the river becomes subject to penalties. Also filed in Meigs County Court is a $200 suit from Chicago Paint Works against Ebersbach Hardware Company partners George and Edgar Ebersbach for unpaid goods.

Reorganized Citizens Band Plans July 4 Parade

Middleport residents report the Citizens Band is being reorganized to lead the American Legion Fourth of July parade. A 19 member band was formed with James Souders as manager. Weekly Monday and Wednesday practices are set, and more musicians are being invited to join to expand the ensemble. Free concerts are planned before the holiday.

County roads employ 725 men in Athens system peak

The Athens County road program reached a peak in late May with about 725 men rehired. A payroll of 280 men for the first half of May and 1,000 men overall in May yielded about $... total wages for the first two weeks of May amounted to $2,360.55.
