Press Suit Challenges Prison Newsman Ban

A Franklin County court was asked to issue an injunction to stop state penitentiary officials from barring newsmen accompanying a Senate inspection tour. Attorneys for several media outlets contend the rule violates the U S and Ohio constitutions and attack the prison rules as arbitrary. A compromise offer to allow one reporter to join the tour was rejected.

Pompidou Leads First Round In France Runoff Bound

Georges Pompidou led the first round with 43.95 percent in continental France and will face Alain Poher in a June 15 runoff for the seven year presidency. Jacques Duclos won 21.53 percent for the Communists with Poher second at 23.44 percent. Other candidates trailed. De Gaulle’s resignation prompted the race as Poher pressed a nationalist campaign while Pompidou led a fast-paced nationwide drive.
