SEA OPPORTUNITY FOR RETURNED SAILORS IN MERCHANT MARINE
The United States Shipping Board urges veterans to join the merchant marine as new ships flood the fleet. Enlistees receive free uniforms, 30 dollars a month during four to six months training, 55 to 75 dollars monthly wages plus living expenses, and world travel. A one year enlistment is asked with two years experience yielding free technical schooling. The program promises humane treatment and solid careers, possibly even more chances than the navy if fleets shrink.
