In Gallipolis on Wednesday night a large sedan from Charleston West Virginia struck a small residence of Mary Welch near the Fourth Avenue entrance to the Ohio Hospital for Epileptics. The car was only slightly damaged and the woman escaped by crawling through a window as the house sustained heavy damage but did not collapse.
A four room frame house owned by the New York Coal Co. at Coal Run near Chauncey was destroyed by fire late last night. The building was vacant and the origin is unknown. James Frazee and family had recently moved to Morristown. The blaze produced bright illumination visible from town.
A group of four Southeastern Ohio county agents with W. W. Brownfield and Paul Fankhauser of Ohio State University examined the recently passed Federal Farm Bill to assess its impact on local farming. The session met in the office of Athens County agent T. H. Johnson with attendees including George Kreitler Meigs County Arthur Smith Washington and George Eberhard Morgan.

London June 1 report says aviators J A Mollison and wife Amy Johnson will attempt a 12 000 mile flight from Croydon to New York to Baghdad and back to Croydon aiming for the first two way Atlantic crossing and a non stop record. Mollison rates success at 10 to 7 and warns this may be their last big flight.
Mrs. Leona McLaughlin of Radcliffe files a suit for 4000 against Metropolitan Life Insurance in Gallipolis. Her son Orlin T. McLaughlin died June 8, 1932 in Holzer Hospital from a poisoning suffered April 22, 1982 while embalming. She says the insurer refused payment because he allegedly could not sign his name to the installment due May 31, 1982.
The estate of Harry Lane was awarded 12500 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court for a fatal 1931 bus accident near Lancaster. Judge Henry L. Scarlett heard the case. witnesses cited a jar in the bus and a dark object by the roadside but there was no direct proof the bus struck Lane. Lane’s widow and a child reside in Logan.
Beverly Hills report notes Mr Roosevelt failing to secure a Republican for the economic conference in London. Senator Jim Couzens of Detroit is recruited but only to gain the trip. Observers say bribery may be involved to name a Republican.
President Roosevelt, visiting Annapolis for the 1932 naval academy graduation, urged the 32 midshipmen to break traditional professional caste and engage with the average citizen. He asked graduates to keep democracy in their thoughts and avoid exclusive ties with their own class.
Senate inquiry reveals paper profits of 152.568 million dollars for J. P. Morgan and Company and partners in United Corporation securities. George Whitney, Morgan partner, testifies that cost was about 30 million and notes profits were not actually taken as a speculation not executed.
General offices of the newly formed Northern Coals Inc will be established in Cleveland within a week. William Emery Jr president of the corporation and of the Cambridge Collieries Company announced the formation to market coal mines in Ohio and the West Virginia panhandle except the Hoving District. Emery was elected president at a stockholders meeting.
Washington June 1 conferees reach agreement shifting the three percent tax on electricity to be paid entirely by power companies starting September 1. The tax covers municipal and commercial plants. The bill also lowers local first class mail to two cents, grants Roosevelt rate powers, extends the one cent gasoline tax for a year, and anticipates railroad reorganization actions with employee protection.
Ohio judges rejected a proposed salary cut from the 89th general assembly in a Finance Committee survey. Elected officials not yet in new terms cannot be compelled. Of 5385 common pleas judges, 12 took county paid portions, 47 refused any cut. states fund part of each judge's salary.

Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt and Secretary Perkins announce a Bear Mountain Park New York experimental camp for young unmarried unemployed women. The first camp will provide temporary work for 200 women with federal relief funds. a second camp for 150 will follow. No pay, no family residents, no regimentation.
In Geneva Norman H. Davis chief US delegate urged more disarmament and less procedure as the arms conference drafted a preliminary disarmament agreement based on Ramsay MacDonald’s plan and adjourned to June 27 while the World Economic Conference meets in London.
In a Dayton case, the Ohio Supreme Court reversed lower courts and ruled Dr. Robert K. Finney could claim husband Harry Tille only if necessities were furnished on the husband’s credit. Finney had billed Mrs. Tille for medical services, with payments made by Mrs. Tille. the court found no unconditional liability for the husband.
Dayton June 1 WP F G Biechler president and general manager of Frigidaire Corp said production of electric refrigerators during June would exceed the company's previous 30 day high. About 10 000 men, the largest workforce since 1929, are employed on all time schedules in the two Dayton plants.
Middleport residents report two men aged long farm lives who value home life. Millard Lambert of Dead Man's Curve and a Plants farmer live alone with their dogs after children leave. They refused visits to Akron to stay with their families, preferring their farms.
A woman in white posing as a nurse abducted infant Pansy Sneed from Mrs. Madeline Sneed in Cincinnati. The suspect, calling herself Dr McEverett, claimed the child needed hospital treatment for a birth injury. Police opened a child stealing report after the 24 hour search failed and a note from Dr McEverett led to a nursery.
Walter Potashnik of Athens pleaded not guilty to assault and battery before Magistrate C. H. Porter and was bound over to the Athens County Grand Jury under $200 bond. His wife Lillian Potashnik accuses him of striking and biting her during an altercation last Sunday night. Both are Ohio University students. Cari Partsow of Athens was fined 25.00 and costs for fishing without a license. He was arrested by Deputy State Game Protector B. F. Swartz.
The Ohio Public Utilities Commission denied an application by Ohio steam carriers to extend surcharges on intra state freight shipments until September 30. The decision ends the proposed extension and keeps existing rates in place.
