Prosecution Planned in Starkey Check Fraud Case
Prosecuting Attorney John C. Bacon said he will prosecute Reese Desmond Starkey after a sheriff arrest on four check offenses and a hotel fraud case in Justice of the Peace court. Starkey is also wanted as a parole violator by Ohio authorities per sheriff's investigation.

Examination Stops Rumor About Davis Drowning
After the body of Duane Davis was recovered from the Ohio River, Coroner Henry Ewing dismissed a rumor that a towboat struck him. He found no marks of contact on the body. Davis was seen near the riverbank about 36 hours after the alleged drowning. Charles Rayburn and George Horak recovered the body. Funeral services are set for Sunday at Ewing Chapel.

Middleport Firefighters Answer Out of Town Calls
The Middleport Volunteer Fire Co. deployed on its fourth out-of-town call since July first, responding to Henderson, West Virginia, after noon. A local official defend their service noting two pumpers stay in town with trained crews and gear including life saving apparatus and a motorized boat. In July they assisted drowning victims and spent hours searching for Duane Davis, whose body was recovered Thursday.

Man Becomes Ill On Towboat Titan Near Pomeroy
Harry Feevey of Charleroi Pennsylvania was removed from the towboat Titan of the Jones Laughlin Steel Corp fleet at Pomeroy Ferry landing and taken to Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis. Doctors said he is suffering a recurrence of an ailment that previously sent him to a Pittsburgh hospital two weeks earlier.
