Ground Broken for Carriage Hill Apartments in Athens
About 60 people attended a Wednesday groundbreaking for the Carriage Hill apartment complex in South Athens off Richland Ave near the Hoop er St Mulligan Rd intersection. The 25 acre hilltop site will include 18 brick buildings with 24 three story units each and a recreation area and pool. 60 apartments in three units are to be ready by mid September, with a luncheon at The Ohio University Inn. The project aims to relieve housing shortages for married Ohio University students and nearby residents. Articles of Incorporation have been filed for Athens Professional Associates Inc with 250 shares issued. Edward S. Robe is the statutory agent.

Rural Fire Safety Program Is Set Sunday
A rural fire safety program will be presented in Athens on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by the Ohio State Fire Marshals Office in cooperation with the city fire department. Demonstrations will cover causes of rural fires, brush and grass problems, flammable liquids use, and administrative issues. Lead instructors include Harry McLaughlin Jr, Joseph Hienzen, W. D. Hondell, Ed Chesser, C. H. O'Brien, Darrell Gorb y, Frank Jewell, and Lloyd Gill.
