Well earns Eagle rank in Boy Scouts world jamboree bid

David Well, 17, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Well of Guysville, earned Eagle Scout after seven years and a broken arm nearly kept him from attending the World Jamboree. He funded his trip, served as senior patrol leader, attended Boys State, and will tour Grand Coulee Dam Seattle and Victoria after the jamboree before returning to finish high school. Athens firemen responded to a fire alarm at Athens State Hospital late Wednesday night due to a short in the system.

McBee Plant Labor Halt Remains Unsolved

Negotiations continue in the ten day old labor dispute halting work on the $3 million McBee Systems plant east of Athens. Labor officials in New York say they are hopeful for settlement while no local meetings have been arranged. The 130 building trades and engineers union members walked off July 18 after a subcontractor began work. The feud centers on F. H. Brewer Co employees, Lancaster, not AFL-CIO affiliated, who are District 50 United Mine Workers of America, Columbus members. Pickets accuse Fuller Construction Co of allowing non AFL-CIO workers to operate on Route 50E site and violating the contract.
