Athenians Win Heroes Medals for Rescue at Air Crash
Seven Ohioans received Carnegie Hero Fund bronze medals and 750 dollars each for acts of heroism. Among honorees two Athenians helped rescue James T. Artry from a May 9 1965 air crash at Ohio University airport in Athens. The rescuers included Dr E D Mattmiller Ronald E Ziegier Durward L Lewis Richard E Barr and Edwin D Walford.

Logan Bypass Bid Sets $3.3 Million Price Tag
Eagle Construction Co. of McArthur and Allied Enterprises Inc. of Canton appear lowest bidders at 3 374 116 07 for the first of three Route 33 bypass sections around Logan Ohio Division of Highways engineer John Dowler said the joint bid topped six others with work likely to start mid to late August and a target completion of August 31 1968. The project includes a 5.3 mile initial section linking to Route 180 and extending to 25 miles west of Mulberry Street near the Hocking River with a bridge for McArthur Road and twin spans over the river. Subsequent sections are planned for August and November with details including interchanges at Mulberry Street Route 93 and Route 328 and the Haydenville bypass.

Racer Crash Kills Two at Putnam County Fair
At the Putnam County Fair in Ottawa Ohio a midget car driven by Jan Heely of Battle Creek Michigan crashed into a fence during the final night killing Charles Horstman age 19 of Cloverdale and Gary Burden age 18 of near Spencerville. Seven others were injured and treated at St. Rita's Hospital Lima. Ambulances aided victims as spectators searched for missing youths and fair officials canceled the Midwest Midget Racing Association semifinal and feature.
