Damages Run High In Blaze At Imperial Electric Plant
A fire at the Imperial Electric Co. on Gravel Hill damaged the plant and could run into thousands of dollars. Fire Chief Thomas Durst said sparks from a cutting outfit used to remove old stock rocks ignited the blaze, which spread through the metal sided building. Fire crews cut roof sections and doused the flames with water for about two and a half hours, bringing the fire under control around 4 p.m. Most employees were on vacation and are not expected to be delayed. Equipment in one area was soaked but no major replacements were anticipated. Damages were not yet totaled.
