Vice President Richard Nixon and Governor Nelson Rockefeller pushed a defense oriented civil rights plank as they courted platform committee backing. They aimed to avoid a floor fight while seeking endorsed lunch counter sit ins, with Eisenhower’s review slated for the day.
The Republican National Convention schedule outlines Tuesday and Wednesday sessions starting at 6 30 p m EST. Tuesday features credentials rules permanent organization reports with Eisenhower and key Republicans speaking.
