Samardzija Cabrera lift White Sox past Indians 8-1
Jeff Samardzija shined over eight innings allowing one run as Melky Cabrera homered from both sides of the plate to spark the Chicago White Sox to an 8-1 win over the Cleveland Indians. Cabrera hit a leadoff homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the seventh. Ramirez added a three-run blast in the fourth.

Cleveland pitcher Nick Hagadone had surgery on his left elbow performed by Dr James Andrews in Pensacola Florida. The 26 year old reliever previously had Tommy John surgery in 2008 and is expected to miss six to nine months after suffering a fracture repair near the original site. He was 0 1 with a 4 28 ERA in 36 relief appearances and had been on the 15 day DL with a back strain before a July minor league assignment.
