Bipartisan Ohio proposal to overhaul congressional maps

A bipartisan Senate plan from Frank LaRose and Tom Sawyer would establish a seven member commission to draw political boundaries in Ohio. The panel would include the governor secretary of state and auditor plus four legislative appointees requiring two minority party votes for a 10 year map. If lacking those votes the majority could only approve short term maps. The measure would let the commission draw congressional lines as well. The proposal follows a Supreme Court ruling upholding an independent commission’s work.
