Governor George White will allow five remaining tax bills to become law without his signature. Washington July 21 Thirty six states will vote this year on repealing the Eighteenth Amendment. Governor Edwin C Johnson of Colorado said he would call a special session August 1 to provide a vote September 4. Votes in thirty five states had already been assured.
The Lathrop Black Diamond Mine strike ends as workers will return to the job tomorrow after talks in Columbus led by Herman Theisen and Captain Percy Tetlow. Owner Earnshaw approved the settlement, acknowledging prior terms were not followed, and distribution of available work will be set by mine superintendent Matheny to reinstate 115 workers.

Police stationed at nine breweries and beverage plants to curb clashes between the Brewery Workers Union and the Teamsters over which union may drive beer trucks. Previous incidents saw beer trucks driven off brewery platforms by brewery workers.
Athens County receives part of a 3999.35 R F C grant for late June from the State Relief Commission via Auditor J Clyde Edmundson. Nelsonville gets 1946.47. Hocking County 939. Vinton County 789 for emergency relief. Athens also gains 12000 from the gasoline tax excise fund credited to road and bridge, and townships receive 4200 from the same fund.
Surveyor J. W. Wilson reports that federal funds for highway projects in Ohio may be withheld if national conditions improve. Athens County plans totaling 337800 are paused until a new federal administrator, to be named by President Roosevelt, approves the program. Wilson is told not to continue work on Athens County details until federal action occurs.
Elza Richardson of Canaanville, on parole from Ohio State Penitentiary, was found at 10 o clock last night attempting to break into the Kroger store on West State Street. Police say his parole officer will be notified and he will be returned to the penitentiary. Capt. Maple and Officer Bradfield responded after Mrs. W H Brooks reported a man at the rear of the shop lifting putty from a window. Richardson has been on parole since June 1 for a prior break in at Kerr Hardware last November.
Beverly Hills discussion proposes a painless tax shift to charity and relief. A speaker named Will argues for high rates if revenue funds hunger relief, beer price effects, and public welfare, claiming no one could object if the needy are supported.
Gallipolis dispatch reports Bernice Warnecke 19 of Chauncey was assaulted by Don Gosney 23 and Charlie Motley 25 of Middleport after being picked up on Chauncey hitchhiking. She was struck, robbed of a suitcase and clothes, and forced from a car on Bulaville Road. Gosney and Motley were to be arraigned after identification at a Cheshire filling station.
Five hundred 4-H members from Hocking County visited Athens today. They toured the Ohio University campus in the morning, enjoyed a picnic lunch at the fairgrounds, and inspected the dairy farm and Athens State Hospital buildings as well as The Athens Messenger plant in the afternoon. Guided by G Harold Chambers of Logan and Annaloi Saum, assistant director of the OU Service Bureau.
Roger Touhy gang leader was held under guard with three henchmen on charges of kidnapping John Factor known as Jake the Barber and William Hamm Jr in St Paul, following the earlier Capone gang power clash in Chicago on July 21.
