Mob Fires Three Negro Homes In Groveland Violence
In Groveland Florida a mob of about 50 armed white men burned three Negro homes during a racial flare up. Three Black men were jailed for assault and kidnapping in a separate Saturday incident. National Guardsmen patrolled the area as a missing nine year old girl from the neighborhood remained unaccounted for. Groveland lies roughly 33 miles west of Orlando.

Eddie Starcher 23, the final of 14 convicts who escaped from Moundsville State Penitentiary on June 3, surrendered yesterday unarmed at a Medina County farm home. Detective Captain John Struzenski and Akron police took him into custody around noon near Sharon Center after arrangements for the surrender. Starcher, previously living in Akron, was serving a 10-year grand larceny sentence and had been sought in the area for about a month.
